The first appointment lasts approximately 90 minutes. We will review the office paperwork you completed and any other documents you provide. We will gather further information during the first appointment to better understand the nature of your concerns and to develop a plan for treatment. This appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know you but also for you to determine whether you would like to pursue a therapeutic relationship. When selecting a psychologist, it is important that you feel comfortable and are able to gain clarification on questions you may have. We believe that a therapeutic relationship should be collaborative. We will use our expertise to help guide you to achieve the changes you seek to make within yourself or your family.

Most individual therapy sessions or family therapy sessions are 45 minutes. However, some clients prefer to have longer sessions. If you prefer to meet longer, we can discuss this at our first appointment and make appropriate arrangements.

How often we will meet for therapy will depend on several factors. During our initial appointment, we will discuss your concerns and develop a plan on how to proceed. Most clients will meet once a week in the beginning. As time progresses, the frequency of sessions may decrease to either once or twice a month depending on the needs of the client. Throughout therapy, we will monitor our goals and openly discuss your progress towards those goals. Therapy will come to an end when symptoms are relieved and effective coping strategies have been adopted. Although therapy may have come to an end, clients are encouraged to attend follow-up sessions as deemed necessary.

Research supports that therapeutic relationships are most effective when a collaborative effort is maintained between the psychologist and the client. The theoretical orientations of Soublis Psychological Associates are varied and frequently a number of orientations are incorporated throughout the therapeutic relationship.
